Open Source Chemistry

jcbradley

I would like to report on our own efforts to carry out Open Source Science in chemistry with the UsefulChem project.
All aspects of the research process are published to public blogs and a wiki in real time, including laboratory experiments with all raw data, interpretation of data and plans. The main project currently involves the synthesis and testing of new anti-malarial compounds.

An article in the summer of 2006 in Chemical and Engineering News summarizes the state of Open Source Science in chemistry, especially concerning tropical diseases. Organizations such as the Synaptic Leap and Chemists Without Borders are mentioned in the article.
