"? What kind of answer is that for a journalist? Accountability is the name of the game, and while she might not want to reveal her name, you should have addressed it in question number one. And in a piece about investigative journalism, too!

I would tend to agree that being a journalist means not being a "leftie" or a "rightie". I feel like the cable news networks in this country have convinced people that they need to be on the left or the right and there is no other choice. While politics and stereotyping a profession as loyal to one political party is a discussion for another day, I can certainly understand someone wishing to remain anonymous, especially as a source. Journalists should try to be objective, but in the age of blogging and citizen journalism, I question whether any news source (Professional or amateur) is truly objective. Again, a debate for another day.

Maybe the question could have been asked and/or addressed in the piece. The issue of sources and anonymity play out in our society everyday (Valerie Plame case) and I don't think we'll solve it here. I think that either asking someone why they wish to remain anonymous is good, or just briefly addressing the point in the piece should be enough as long as it is done with integrity and not an invented source like we have seen happen before, even at the New York Times.

I personally think it is great that we are even having this discussion, because if crowdsourced journalism is going to succeed, we all need to be willing and able to hold each other's feet to the fire. If we are accountable to each other, it will force us all to maintain as high a level of professionalism as possible-- not that I think this is the case here. I think the piece was fine and I am just throwing in my two cents on the topic.

I like conversations like this because I think with the visibility of AZ can not only move Pro-Am journalism forward, but also help set the standards that others will hopefully adopt themselves and bring more credibility to what we are all interested in accomplishing.
